When is a lease a real lease?

Well, if it’s written in regards to a City or County endeavor, who knows. Hearing and reading about the need for more room for The Shelby Police Department, but there is no money available, enhances the fact that the stewards are very frivolous with the citizen’s money. There seems to be a pattern, since at least 2006, involving the Mayor, City Manager, and the City Council. Members of the Fire Department, The Police Department, Parks and Recreation, etc. have lost jobs because there was not enough money. Yet, with each occurrence, there is always enough money found to give to Destination Cleveland County.

This is the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen. These leaders take jobs that protect the people and their properties and give them to an entity that cannot even pay for their own employees. The city even pays a couple of them. The theatre, (Don Gibson Theatre) is not making money, according to Form 990. Concert revenue equates to approximately $200,000 per year, and the operating expenses of the concerts are approximately $300,000. The City of Shelby is paying employees of DCC/Don Gibson Theatre, and now the Mayor, Council, and City Manager want to give The Don Gibson Theatre $20,000 for advertising.

As I stated earlier, there seems to be a pattern here and it is very irresponsible for these City leaders to throw money away and yet leave much-needed employees behind. What does Shelby need…more entertainment at the expense of the people, or more police officers and firefighters? We already know what the leaders think.

Now, look at the agenda for the meeting on Monday evening, August 6, 2012. Now, can anyone show any justification as to why these present leaders should even still be in the office or employed?

Oh, and all that talk about “renting some space” at the Earl Scruggs Center for meetings Shelby by the City Council. Forget about that. These jokers have already forgotten what was stated in the lease of the Courthouse to DCC. But the people haven’t.

In the words of Forrest Gump: Stupid is as stupid does.
