Wanted: four people with a backbone

What?  Yes indeed.  We need at least four people with a certifiable backbone to serve on the Shelby City Council.  Is that asking for too much?  We need those four people to be able to beat back intimidation and refuse to be bullied.  It matters not which political party these individuals belong to.  All that matters is that they’re capable and willing to do what is best for the City of Shelby and the citizens, and not just certain groups of interest, and pet projects of the city manager and others.  They also must have the ability to think for themselves and not yield to statements by other leaders that tell them “you must do this or that”, without doing research for themselves.  The citizens of Shelby do not need a group of parrots elected, that will serve the pleasures of the hired and appointed.  These council members need to remind these leaders that they were hired to serve at the pleasure of the said council.  Also, these council members need to remember that they serve at the pleasure of those who vote them in and can be replaced at the ballot box.  However, if they are doing their job, then they should have no worries.

As an example, regarding the County Commissioners, it only takes a majority of three to have something passed.  The city council can hire and fire with a majority of four.  There is no need whatsoever to have to put up with intimidation and bullying, in your position, when you have the power and the right to nip it in the bud.  If you’re having a tough time, you have no one to blame but yourselves.
